Team 1920 Wins Indiana State Championship!
The Indiana FIRST LEGO League held the State Championship in Ft. Wayne on December 10. Team 1920, FlufflePuff earned top honors as the Champions of the event.
The FIRST LEGO League consists of up to 10 students in 4th-8th grade. They spend 16 weeks building and programming robots that are completely made out of LEGO building pieces. They also execute a research project based on the current season's theme.
The theme this year was Animal Allies. Teams learned about a problem with our relationship with the animal kingdom and created solutions to resolve them. The FlufflePuffs discovered that millions of rabbits are killed each year in testing by the cosmetics and hygiene industry. They created an awareness campaign that included a stuffed animal and an app game.
As State Champions, Team 1920 will now represent Indiana at the World Festival in St. Louis this coming April. The team also earned the State Champion title 3 years ago and they have been in the top 4 for the years in between. Over 275 teams compete in Indiana and over 28,000 compete world-wide. Team 1920 has traveled each spring for the last 4 seasons to compete with students from around the globe. They look forward to seeing some old friends and meeting some new ones.
Team 1920, FlufflePuff, is one of the 11 teams that met at GEARS this season. Two others, the Robo Roosters and The Constrictors, also competed at the State Championship. The next FIRST LEGO League season will start on August 29, 2017.
Congratulations Team 1920 on another fantastic season and good luck competing against the best in the world in April!
